Help & feedback
Everything you need to know about using 11 Plus Vocabulary Practice. Can’t find an answer? Send us a message.
Getting started
How do I start?
Press Start practising and sign in with a Google account. Then pick one or more word books, a quiz type and how many questions (5 to 60), and press Start quiz.
Your progress is saved to that Google account, so you can carry on from any phone, tablet or computer.
Is it really free?
Yes. There is nothing to pay and no adverts.
Who is it for?
It was made for children preparing for the 11+ and other school entrance exams, but anyone who wants a stronger vocabulary can use it – older pupils, English learners and adults too.
Children under 13 should use the site with a parent or guardian, for example signing in with the parent’s Google account.
The quizzes
What are the five quiz types?
Word → Meaning: see a word, choose its meaning from four options.
Meaning → Word: read a meaning, choose the matching word.
Synonyms: tick every word that means the same. The question tells you how many to pick (1 to 3), and one choice is a sneaky opposite.
Antonyms: tick every word with the opposite meaning. One choice is a word with the same meaning, to catch you out.
Spelling: listen to the word, then type it. Press Hear it with its meaning to hear and see what it means.
How are answers marked?
The right answer is shown straight after each question, with the meaning and an example sentence. After a wrong answer the Next button waits 5 seconds so there is time to read it.
Synonym and antonym questions are right only if you tick all the correct words and none of the wrong ones.
In spelling, capital letters and extra spaces don’t matter. British spellings are used (for example colour, not color), as in the 11+.
Which words come up in a quiz?
Most questions are words you haven’t tried yet in the current round. About 1 in 10 are words you got wrong before, so you get another go at them.
Once you’ve tried every word in a book, a new round starts. The home page shows how many words are left in each round.
Can I choose easier or harder words?
Yes. Turn on Select difficulty under the word books and pick Easy (3–5 letters), Medium (6–7 letters) or Hard (8+ letters) – or any mix. The Charts tab in My results shows how you do at each level.
Can I go back to an earlier question?
Yes – use the Back button to look at questions you’ve already answered. Answers can’t be changed once given. Stop quiz (top right) ends the quiz early and saves what you’ve done.
The spelling test doesn’t speak
The words are read aloud by your device’s built-in voice. Check the volume and silent switch, and try Chrome, Edge or Safari. On some devices the first word only plays after you press Hear the word.
Progress & privacy
Where can I see progress?
Open My results. All quizzes lists every quiz, Word by word shows the last three results for each word in each quiz type (hover or tap a word for its meaning, synonyms and antonyms), and Charts shows scores by quiz, round and book.
What information is stored?
Only your Google name and email address, your quiz answers and progress, and the dates you visit. It is used only to run the site and show your progress – it is never sold or shared, and there is no advertising.
